World Day for Prevention of Child Abuse – 19 November
(In synergy with the Anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child – 20 November)
WWSF would like to thank those of you who have joined the 2005 international coalition marking 19 November - World Day for Prevention of Child Abuse. You are actually one among 624 organizations from 115 countries (as of date) that have committed to participate in the creation of a culture of prevention of child abuse by supporting the Day or by organizing activities and events on 19 November 2005. WWSF is pleased to share with you its 2005 global poster (to be downloaded from Internet http://www.woman.ch/children/1-openletter.asp). Coalition members are mentionned on the poster as active or supporting members (for deadline reasons, it was not possible to include all of you on the poster. However, all coalition members will be published on our webiste http://www.woman.ch/children/1-coalitionmembers.asp by 19 November). To join the coalition, please return the registration form as soon as possible www.woman.ch/children/1-register.asp.

“I support the World Day for Prevention of Child Abuse – 19 November. Tragically thousands of children are abused daily, often by those closest to them. I endorse this campaign enthusiastically and hope that many more will offer their support and encouragement.”
- Desmond Tutu, Archbishop Emeritus and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate

Betty Makoni Prize, awarding innovative prevention activities
WWSF is in the process of selecting the four 2005 Prize winning organisations among active WWSF coalition members that marked the World Day on 19 November 2004. The laureate organizations will be announced by November 2005 and their activities published on our website. We encourge 2005 active members to send us their nomination for the next annual Betty Makoni Prize by January 2006 (for more information: www.woman.ch/children/2-introduction.asp). NEW global yellow ribbon campaign: “YES to prevention of child abuse!”
WWSF invites you to use and promote the yellow ribbon campaign by placing the sticker on your door, computer or any visible site as a symbol of your stand for prevention of child abuse, to treat all children with respect and dignity and to take care and protect them from abuse and potential offenders. It is an illustrative tool for parents, adults and youth working with children to remind that child abuse and violence are unacceptable and that values and standards of behavior have to be respected within families and institutions. WWSF encourages you to use the stickers in your own organizations and homes and to order additional copies for your advocacy and outreach to make every home and institution in your country safe for children (US$ 20.- for 30 copies).
