19 November – World Day for Prevention of Child Abuse
(In synergy with the Anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child – 20 November)
Update on activities and events |
Worldwide The World Day for Prevention
of Child Abuse 2006 proved to be the most successful year of activities. Around the world, more
than 700 partner organizations from 119 countries organized local and national activities and
events on 19 November or expressed support of the Day. WWSF is receiving many exciting reports
with beautiful photos and videos from which it will select 4 laureate organizations for the 2007
Prize for prevention of child abuse.
Geneva
In Geneva, WWSF HQ, the World Day was commemorated at the International Conference Centre with
a Conference-Debate "Progress in preventing child abuse - Annual Review 5th edition". Theme:
"How to parent well in the modern media age". Nine panelists shared their insights on this
burning subject. The conference was followed by the third annual Award Ceremony for the WWSF
Prize for prevention of child abuse that honors innovative prevention activities, and by a
reception celebrating the laureate organization from India.

2007 Call for Registration |
WWSF invites your organization to join the 2007 international coalition
marking the World Day and asks that you return the registration form by 1st June 2007.
Your organization's name will be published on the WWSF global poster and Call to Action
and on our website. As a registered member, you will receive our campaign packet of materials
to help you prepare your events. We hope to count you among our members as we celebrate
the power of our civil society partnership.

WWSF contributions to the follow up of the UN Study on Violence against
Children & Manifesto 2007 |
Because the year 2007 must be a new beginning with the adoption of the
General Assembly Resolution of the UN Study on violence against children, WWSF commits
to actively advocate for the Study's recommendations and will include them in its 2007
Call to Action. It shared its follow-up activities and Manifesto 2007 at the 4th Session
of the UN Human Rights Council - Special event on violence against children (March 2007).
Purpose: to help prioritize prevention and mobilize the growing WWSF network for urgent
action, especially on the World Day.

WWSF Prize for Prevention of Child Abuse
(Awarded every 19 November) |
In 2006, WWSF received many interesting applications that made the selection
very difficult. For this reason, it was decided to award two first prizes. Below are the names
of the four laureate organizations receiving the award for their innovative prevention
activities in 2006 :
Two First Prizes (US$ 3000 each)
Tulir Centre for the Prevention and Healing of Child Sexual Abuse - Tulir CPHCSA, India
Queen Rania Family & Child Center at Jordan River Foundation, Jordan
Two additional awards (US$ 500 each)
Association Najdeh, Lebanon
Cercle de Réflexion et d'Action pour Christ - CRAC, Togo

Award Ceremony
Mrs. Vidya Reddy, President of Tulir CPHCSA, came especially
from India to receive her award in Geneva. She presented commendable work done by her
organization on World Day for Prevention of Child abuse.

WWSF is now in the process of selecting candidates for the 2007 awards which will be announced on 19 November 2007.

Launch of WWSF International Clearinghouse
A selection of 40 Internet links to programs that advocate the prevention
of abuse and violence against children.
